Bartholomew Ogbeche is reportedly set to extend his stay at Hyderabad FC for one more year. The 37-year-old won the Indian Super League Golden Boot award last season after scoring 18 goals in 20 appearances for the Nizams en route to the title. The Nigerian footballer has been a prolific goal-scorer for whichever team he has played for in the ISL. He descended on Indian shores in 2018-19 ISL season where he donned the NorthEast United FC’s colours. After netting 12 goals, the most any highlander has scored in a season, he went on to emerge as Kerala Blasters FC’s top-scorer with 15 scalps to his name in the following season. After two successful goal-scoring seasons in the ISL, Ogbeche joined Mumbai City FC in 2020. He scored seven goals in 23 games for the Islanders, helping them win the ISL title and League winners shield.

Ogbeche is the all-time top goal-scorer in ISL

According to a recent update on Khel Now, a close source has informed them that Ogbeche had offers from numerous ISL clubs. However, he has decided to extend his stay in the city of Nizams after a fruitful discussion with coach Manolo Marquez, who himself signed an extension. He is the current all-time top-scorer in ISL with 52 scalps to his name. Meanwhile his best season was in 2021-22 when he netted 18 times in 20 appearances to win the Golden Boot award and lead Hyderabad FC to their maiden ISL triumph.

Ogbeche played in the 2002 FIFA World Cup

Ogbeche started his career way back in 2001. In his career, he played for clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Real Valladolid, FC Metz, Cadiz, Xerez CD and Middlesbrough among others. Meanwhile he was also part of the Nigerian national team which took part in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He made two appearances in football’s greatest tournament, against Argentina and Sweden, in the group stage. Ogbeche went on to make a total of 9 international appearances and scored 3 goals. He got a call-up to the Nigerian national team at the age of 13 and then went on to play through all the youth ranks of the Nigerian team before making it to the senior team as a 17-year-old.

Ogbeche has won two ISL titles and a League winners Shield

Ogbeche has had a stellar ISL career having won two ISL trophies, a league winners shield and a golden boot award. He has been thriving at HFC’s youth-infused setup. He is more of a mentor for many of the young local players in the squad. His ability to outmuscle defenders, create room for himself and deposit the ball into the back of the net from anywhere around the penalty area has made him a lethal weapon for his team. The Nizams may see certain things changing for the 2022-season as Juanan may not continue at the club, as per rumours and right-back Ashish Rai is reportedly said to have signed a contract with ATK Mohun Bagan.
