The EFL Championship is set to resume following the international break as Rotherham United play host to Leeds United at New York Stadium on Friday night. Both sides were previously in action on November 11, with the hosts suffering a humiliating 5-0 loss at Watford, while the Peacocks got the better of Plymouth Argyle 2-1. The victory helped the visitors to move to 31 points from 16 league games, and they are currently occupying third spot in the English second tier standings, eight points adrift of the top two. In sharp contrast, the Millers are languishing at the 22nd position, with 11 points to their name from 16 outings, four adrift of safety.

Rotherham have recorded just two league wins this term and their last success came against Coventry City towards the end of last month. Since then, the Millers have gone on a four game winless run, taking two points in the process. After back-to-back draws against Ipswich Town and Queens Park Rangers, Rotherham traveled to Vicarage Road less than two weeks ago and suffered their ninth Championship defeat of the campaign. Mileta Rajovic’s brace and one goal each from Edo Kayembe, Tom Ince and Matheus Martins handed the Millers their biggest defeat of the season. On a positive note, Rotherham are unbeaten in their last three matches at New York Stadium, taking five points in the process.
Leeds, on the other hand, recorded their ninth league-win of the campaign against Plymouth last time out thanks to first-half efforts from Daniel James and Joel Piroe. Although the visitors pulled one back through Ben Waine’s 84th-minute effort, the Whites held on to the slender lead and secured their third successive victory, scoring seven goals and conceding just three in the period. Meanwhile, Danile Farke’s side haven’t been impressive on the road, already losing three of their eight matches away from Elland Road. Nevertheless, Leeds have won each of their last four encounters against Rotherham, including the last success at New York Stadium back in 2019.
Rotherham United probable starting lineup: Johansson, Lembikisa, Peltier, Morrison, Ayala, Revan, Rathbone, Tiehi, Cafu, Kelly, Nombe
Leeds United probable starting lineup: Meslier, Gray, Rodon, Cooper, Firpo, Ampadu, Kamara, James, Piroe, Summerville, Rutter
