Roma will host Feyenoord in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie at Stadio Olimpico on Thursday night. The first leg in Netherlands was a closely fought contest which ended 1-0 in favour of Feyenoord thanks to Mats Wieffer’s lone goal early in the second half. The Eredivisie leaders have now taken one step towards eliminating the team that denied them victory in the Europa Conference League final last season. Meanwhile, both sides are heading into the match on the back of 3-0 wins in their respective league-fixtures on Sunday, with the hosts thrashing Udinese in the Serie A, while De Club secured a Dutch top flight-victory away to Cambuur.

Roma put three goals past Udinese without reply courtesy of efforts from Edoardo Boave, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Tammy Abraham. It was the Yellow and Reds’ 17th Italian top flight victory of the season and the result lifted them to third spot in the standings, having collected 56 points from 30 games. Giallorossi have a stunning home-record, having lost only one of their last 23 European-matches at Stadio Olimpico. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho’s side have progressed from each of their last three ties when losing the first leg by one goal, including in this season’s Europa League playoff round against RB Salzburg.
Feyenoord, on the other hand, are comfortably sitting at the summit of the Dutch top flight standings, having taken 70 points from 29 matches, eight clear of the chasing pack. On Sunday, De Club thrashed Cambuur thanks to Santiago Gimenez’s 17th-minute opener, Sebastian Szymanski’s 51st-minute effort and and own goal by Calvin Mac-Intosch in the 64th-minute. The result extended their wining run to three games in all competitions, scoring nine goals and conceding only once in the process. Meanwhile, the Rotterdam club are winless in their last five away games in Europe, so they will be all too aware that semi-final place is far from assured despite holding a slim advantage.
