Athletic Bilbao will be bidding to extend their unbeaten run to seven games in the La Liga when they make the trip to Anoeta to take on Real Sociedad on Saturday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 win away to Valencia in the mid-week, while Athletic Club were held to a 2-2 draw by Getafe last time out. The victory helped La real to move to 12 points from their opening seven league-games and they are currently occupying fifth spot in the Spanish top flight standings, while the visitors are fourth, boasting 14 points from their opening seven encounters.

Real Soceidad started their season with three successive draws against the likes of Girona, Celta Vigo and Las Palams, before registering their first win against Granada at the start of this month. However, they couldn’t build on that success, losing away to Real Madrid in the league, before playing out a 1-1 draw against Inter Milan in their Champions League opener on September 20. Nevertheless, four days later, the White and Blues secured a thrilling 4-3 top flight-win over Getafe and followed it with a narrow win over Valencia in the mid-week. Imanol Alguacil’s side registered their first away-win of the campaign against Los Che on Wednesday night, thanks to Carlos Fernandez’s lone goal on the half-hour mark. Real Sociedad will now host Athletic, looking for a third league win in a row, before switching their attention back to Europe, facing a trip to Austria to take on Red Bull Salzburg next week.
Athletic, on the other hand, kicked off their 2023-24 campaign with a 2-0 defeat against Real Madrid on August 12, but they have since gone from strength to strength, stitching together a six game unbeaten run in the league, recording four wins in the process. Los Leones went into the game against Getafe on the back of successive wins over Cadiz (3-0) and Alaves (2-0), but were forced to share the spoils at San Mames Barria on Tuesday night. Erneto Valverde’s side twice took the lead through Yuri Berchiche and Inake Willams, but Geta Azulones also scored two equalisers through Gaston Alvarez and Juanmi Latasa.
