Real Salt Lake will host LA Galaxy in a US open Cup quarter-final fixture at America First Field on Wednesday. The hosts reached this far in the competition courtesy of defeating Colorado Rapids 1-0 in the previous round, while LA got the better of their arch rivals and reigning MLS Cup champions Los Angeles FC 2-0. Meanwhile, both sides are heading into the math on the back of Major League Soccer victories, with RSL defeating Austin 2-1 this Saturday, while the visitors got the better of Wednesday’s hosts 3-2 almost a week ago.

Real Salt Lake secured their fifth MLS-win of the season away to Austin this weekend thanks to Rubio Rubin’s brace. RLS have been fairly inconsistent in the last couple of weeks, having recorded four wins, four draws and two defeats from their last ten matches across all competitions. With just two wins two show from their last eight league-fixtures, Claret and Cobalt are languishing at the ninth spot in the Western Conference standings, having collected 19 points from 16 games. Meanwhile, when it comes to the US Open Cup, Pablo Mastroeni’s men edged past Colorado in the last-16 stage towards the end of May thanks to Jefferson Savarino’s 30th-minute effort.
La Galaxy, on the other hand, put two goals past LAFC in the round of 16 encounter courtesy of second-half efforts from Tyler Boyd and Riqui Puig. The result helped Galaxy to make their second consecutive appearance in the quarter-finals of the Cup competition. Meanwhile, not much has gone right for Greg Vanney’s men in the MLS, losing nine of their opening 15 league-games to be languishing at the bottom of the Western Conference standings. They have recorded just three top flight wins this season and their latest success came against Wednesday’s hosts almost a week ago courtesy of goals from Gaston Brugman, Memo Rodriguez and Tyler Boyd.
