Betis finished sixth in the La Liga Santander last term and thereby earned a direct qualification to the group stage of Europa League, but they haven’t made a great start to the 2023-24 campaign, winning just two of their seven league matches thus far. The Greens’ last success came against Rayo Vallecano at the start of last month thanks to Willian Jose’s lone goal in the second-half. However, Los Verdiblancos couldn’t build on that success, losing back-to-back games against Barcelona (5-0) and Rangers in the league and Europa League respectively, before playing out a 1-1 top flight-draw against Cadiz last weekend. Three days later, El Gloriso played out yet another 1-1 league draw at Granada thanks to Assani Diao’s 52st-minute opener. Goals have been a problem for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this term, only managing to get on the scoresheet seven times, with three of those coming from Willian Jose.
Valencia, on the other hand, lost out to Sociedad last time out courtesy of Carlos Fernandez’s lone goal in the 32nd-minute. Los Che finished a below par 16th in the La Liga table last season, with 42 points to their name, just two points clear of the relegation zone. Hence, the Orange will be pleased with their start to the new campaign, recording three wins, as many defeats and one draw from their first seven outings. Ruben Baraja’s side’s last success came against Atletico Madrid mid-way through last month, scoring three goals without reply courtesy of Hugo Duro’s first-half brace and Javi Guerra’s 54th-minute effort. Meanwhile, Valencia have been relatively solid at the back conceding just seven times, but they have scored just nine down the other end.
