Reading will be taking on Colchester United on Saturday in a pre-season friendly with both teams looking to kickstart their preparations for 2022/23 season. The match will be conducted behind closed-doors. Reading will be again taking part in the second division of English football, the Championship having finished at the 21st spot last season only one place away from relegation. Colchester United, on the other hand finished 15th in the League Two 2021/22, the fourth tier of English football.

Reading closed their last season in a disastrous way with four defeats, one draw and just a solitary win in their last six games.
