Rangers will host Olympiacos in a pre-season friendly at Ibrox Stadium on Wednesday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 victory over Hamburger SV at the weekend, while the Greek club played out a 1-1 draw against Sabah Baku last week. The Gers, who had a trophy-less season last term are preparing for a Champions League qualification campaign and will be hoping to challenge Celtic for the Scottish top flight title. Red-Whites, meanwhile, will be aiming to regain their domestic crown having finished at the third spot in the 2022-23 Super League Greece standings.

Rangers, finished second in the Scottish Premiership last term courtesy of collecting 92 points from 38 games, seven points adrift of champions Celtic. The Gers recorded four wins and a draw from their final five league-games, but it wasn’t enough to deny the Celts their second successive Scottish top flight title. The Teddy Bears returned to action for the pre-season on July 19, losing 2-1 to Premier League heavyweights Newcastle United, before getting the better of Hamburger SV with an identical scoreline three days later. The Light Blues registered their first win under the Stewardship of new boss Michael Beale on Saturday thanks to first-half efforts from Fashion Sakala and James Tavernier. Meanwhile, the club has made three signings this summer, bringing in Leon Balogun, Dujon Sterling and Kieran Dowell from England.

Olympiacos, on the other hand, failed to defend their Greek top flight title following a disappointing third place finish in the standings last term. Red-Whites collected 73 points from 36 league-games, ten points adrift of champions AEK Athens. The 47-time league-winners are currently under the stewardship of Spaniard Diego Martinez and have already played three friendlies this summer. The Thrylos got the better of Slovacko 2-1 in their pre-season opener on July 8, before playing out back-to-back 1-1 draws against Nordsjaelland and Sabah Baku. Georgios Masouras scored the equaliser for the Red-Whites against Sabh Baku last time out. After the game against Rangers, Olympiacos will play one more friendly against Norwich at the end of this month before beginning their Europa League qualification campaign in August.
