FC Porto will host AS Monaco in a pre-season friendly at Estadio de Dragao on Saturday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 5-1 win over Arouca last Wednesday, while Monaco played out a 2-2 draw against Inter Milan in their recent outing. Porto are preparing to participate in their fifth friendly of the summer while the visitors are getting ready for their sixth. Monaco had a decent Ligue 1 campaign last term, finishing third in the standings, with 69 points from 38 games, 17 points behind League winners Paris Saint-Germain. Porto, on the other hand, won the 2021-22 Primeira Liga title with 91 points from 34 games, six points more than second-placed Sporting Lisbon.

The Portuguese outfit are unbeaten in their pre-season so far, registering victories against Bristol Rovers (2-0), Portimonense (1-0) and Vitoria SC. And then, in their most recent warm-up game against Arouca last Wednesday, Sergio Conceicao’s side recorded a 5-1 win courtesy of goals from Matheus Uribe, Bruno Costa, Toni Martinez, Wenderson Galeno and Danny Loader.  After the game against Monaco, the Blue and whites will take on Tondela in the Supertaca final next Saturday. And then, the Dragons will begin their Primeira Liga title defence at home against Maritino on August 7.

Monaco, on the other hand, started their pre-season with a narrow 1-0 win over Cerci Brugge, before playing out two successive draws against St. Gallen and Austria Wien before getting their acts together to get the better of Portimonense 2-0. And then, Philippe Clement’s side squandered a two goal lead to share the spoils against the Serie A giants Inter Milan. Aleksandr Golovin and Wissam Ben Yedder netted for the Ligue 1 outfit, while goals from Roberto Gagliardini and Kristjan Asllani made it all square at stadio Paolo Mazza. The Monegasques will play Southampton in their final friendly of the summer next Thursday before taking on PSV in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League third round qualifier.
