Manchester United won the fifth round of the FA Cup contest against Nottingham Forest with a late goal. Casemiro headed home a Bruno Fernandes’ low free-kick from close range to score the only goal of the game that separated both sides in the end. A match filled with action saw United take control of the proceedings in the second half after an evenly-fought first period which also saw Forest have some good counter attacks.

In the second half, Manchester United moved the ball well and were purposeful in their passing game. They started to ask more questions of the Nottingham Forest goalkeeper and defence, as the momentum clearly swung in the visitors’ favour. In the end, a delightful low cross from Fernandes was met by Casemiro to send United into the next round of the FA Cup. Victor Lindelof expressed his delight with the win, as he explained what he liked about the second-half performance.

Victor Lindelof on the second half

“It’s an amazing feeling. We felt in the second half we got a little bit more control over the game and it felt like the goal was getting a lit bit closer. Obviously, it’s a very nice feeling to see the ball go into the net and we’re happy for Case as well. Every game, we try to keep a clean sheet. In the second half, we controlled the game better and we stopped their counter-attacks in a better way. I think everyone in the team defended well today and I’m happy with that,” he told MUTV.

A win on Wednesday night meant Man United will face in-form Liverpool in the next round of the FA Cup. Keeping in mind the rivalry that exists between the two sides, it is one that will get the fans excited. Asked about the Liverpool fixture, Lindelof said, “I think it’s going to be a great game, but we have a few games before that. I’m just very happy for the win today and then we’re just trying to focus on what’s coming next. It’s a big game coming up but I think everyone is looking forward to that as well.”

For now, attention will switch to the Premier League, with United set to travel to the Etihad Stadium for a pulsating Manchester derby. Speaking about facing Manchester City, the centre-back said, “It’s going to be a great game there [at Manchester City] and I think everyone is looking forward to that as well, but right now, we’re just happy to go through to the next round. Tomorrow [Thursday], we start with the preparation for that [facing City]. It’s a big game and everyone wants to be on the pitch and try to get the three points. It’s always easier to go into a big game if you win the previous one, you have a nice feeling, so of course, it helps.”
