North Macedonia will be up against Gibraltar in the matchday four of the Group C4 of UEFA Nations League. In less than a week’s time, both the countries will be up against each other once again after North Macedonia emerged victorious 2-0 the last time these two teams met. A similar result is expected, considering the contrasting qualities of the two countries but Gibraltar will certainly want to give the hosts a hard time. The two teams have different agendas going into Sunday’s match with North Macedonia aiming to close the gap on table-toppers, Georgia, while Gibraltar try to cement the third place in the group to ensure their survival.

Following an encouraging World Cup qualifying and play-off campaign on the back of Euros 2020 display, expectations were high for North Macedonia entering into June’s Nations League matches. The start of their campaign certainly proved the expectations right as the Balkan country gathered four points from the first two fixtures including a draw against Bulgaria and a win against Gibraltar. However, a crushing 3-0 defeat against Georgia has made them five points adrift of the top of the group and certainly shaken their confidence ahead of Sunday’s match. They certainly will have a lot to prove in the match against Gibraltar.
As for Gibraltar, recent times have provided motivating signs as they gained promotion to the third tier of UEFA Nations League following an unbeaten run in the last campaign. However, unsurprisingly things have been not so smooth in the current campaign as they suffered heavy defeats coming against Georgia and North Macedonia. A 1-1 draw, however, against Bulgaria has provided them a glimmer of hope and a platform to build upon as they look to keep in touch with Bulgaria for the third place to cement their survival in tier 3 of Nations League.
For North Macedonia, Eljif Elmas and Aleksandr Trajkovski both had to leave the match against Georgia injured. While, Trajkovski is certainly out of the fixture against Gibraltar, the availability of Napoli’s Elmas still remains doubtful. However, Blagoja Milevski’s side will be boosted by the return of Darko Velkovski as he retains his full fitness. Gibraltar, on the other hand, will be without Graeme Torrilla and Julian Valarino who came off injured in their game against Bulgaria and are not quite fit yet.
