Wales will play host to Belgium in the UEFA Nations League fixture at Cardiff City stadium on Saturday. The Dragons, who edged past Ukraine in the World Cup Qualification playoff to secure a spot in the global event to be held in Qatar, later this year are yet to register a point in the 2022-23 Nations League. Rob Page’s side are heading into the contest on the back of a narrow 2-1 loss to Netherlands, while the visitors thrashed Poland 6-1 in their last game. Wales sit at the bottom of the League A Group 4 with zero points while the Red Devils are placed at the second spot with three points from two games. In the head-to-head record between the two sides, Belgium holds the upper hand with six wins, while the Dragons have also emerged victorious on five occasions. ,

Page’s side came ever so close to earning a point against mighty Netherlands last time out. After Teun Koomeiners had put the visitors ahead early in the second half, Wales equalised through Rhys Norrington-Davies in the 92nd minute. Just when it looked like the points would be shared, Wout Weghorst struck the winner in the fourth minute of extra time to secure three points for Louis Van Gaal’s side. However, keeping the Nations League out of the equation, the Gareth Bale-led team has lost only two of their last 12 games, both of them coming in this competition against Poland and Holland.

Belgium, on the other hand, rubbed off their 4-1 loss to Holland in the opening match with a dominant 6-1 victory in Brussels. Leandro Trossard scored a brace while Axel Witsel, Kevin de Bruyne, Leander Dendoncker and Lois Openda netted one goal each to take all three points. Though the Red Devils were on fire against the Eagles, their recent form doesn’t do justice to their incredible squad strength. Roberto Martinez’s side have managed to win just three of their last six games across all competitions.

Probable Lineups

Wales have two players sidelined with injury, and both of them happen to be the goalkeepers- Wayne Hennesey and Danny Ward. Hence third-choice keeper Adam Davies is expected to start the match on Saturday. Meanwhile talismanic striker Gareth Bale will be among the Wales regulars to return to the starting XI after being rested in the mid-week. As for Belgium, Romelu Lukau is unavailable because of an ankle issue, therefore the front three might consist of Trossard, Batshuayi and Eden Hazard. Playmaker De Bruyne could be rested.

Wales probable starting lineup: Davies; Mempham, Rodon, Ampadu; Norrington-Davies, Allen, Morrell, N Williams; Ramsey, James, Bale

Belgium probable starting lineup: Mignolet; Dendoncker, Alderweireld, Boyata; Castagne, Witsel Tielemans, Carrasco; Trossard, Batshuayi, E Hazard.
