Two teams fighting for European qualification will go head-to-head, when Osasuna host Villarreal in a La Liga fixture at Estadio El Sadar on Sunday. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of 1-0 defeats, with the hosts losing out to Valencia in the Spanish top flight last Sunday, while Villarreal got knocked out of the Europa Conference League after being beaten by Anderlecht on Thursday. Osasuna were last victorious in the La Liga away to Sevilla (3-2) at the end of February, thanks to David Garcia’s 18th-minute opener, 67th-minute own goal by Fernando and Abde Ezzalzouli’s late strike. It was Los Rojillos’ ninth league-win of the season. After that, Osasuna secured a narrow 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final tie. But Arrasate’s side have picked up just one point from their last two top tier games, including a loss to struggling Los Che last time out. Villarreal, on the other hand, have the seventh-best away record in the La Liga this term, picking up 15 points from 13 games on the road. Gerard Moreno and Jose Morales found the back of the net in the final quarter of the match to help Villarreal secure their 11th top tier victory of the season. But since then, Quique Setien’s men are winless in the next three games in all competitions. On Thursday, Yellow Submarine’s European campaign came to an end, losing 1-0 to Anderlecht in the second leg of their Conference League last-16 tie. Islam Slimani’s 73rd-minute effort separated the two sides at El Madrigal.
