Middlesbrough will play host to Preston End in an EFL Championship fixture at Riverside Stadium on Saturday. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw against Stoke City on Tuesday, while Preston got the better of Rotherham United 2-1, on the same day. Despite dropping points in the mid-week, Boro are holding on to the third spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 64 points from 37 games, just one point clear of fourth-placed Luton Town and six adrift of second-placed Sheffield United. The visitors, meanwhile, are sitting at the 11 th position, with 53 points to their name, seven shy of the top-six.

Middlesbrough are in stunning form having won nine of their last 12 Championship-games this calendar year. Boro shared the spoils against Stoke on Tuesday, despite taking the lead through Chuba Akpom’s 23rd-minute effort. Prior to that, last weekend, Michael Carrick’s side came from behind to beat Swansea City at Liberty Stadium, thanks to second-half efforts from Aaron Ramsey, Cameron Archer and Akpom. It was their 19th second tier-win of the season. Boro have not lost a league-fixture in front of their own supporters since October. Meanwhile, with nine games still remaining, and five of them at riverside stadium, Middlesbrough are very much alive in the race to secure an automatic qualification spot.
Preston, on the other hand, are heading into the match on the back of a seven-game unbeaten streak. Last time out, Ryan Lowe’s side defeated Rotherham at New York stadium, courtesy of Thomas Cannon’s 23rd-minute opener and Ched Evans’ winner, on the stroke of half-time. It was their 14th league-win of the campaign. The Invincibles have conceded just three goals in their last seven outings. Meanwhile, the reverse fixture in October ended 2-1 in favour of Preston. Lowe’s side came from behind to secure a dramatic win at Deepdale, thanks to Emil Riis Jakobsen’s 35th-minute equaliser and a dramatic 91st-minute winner by Jordan Storey.
