Feyenoord will play host to Shakhtar Donetsk in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League last-16 tie at De Kuip on Thursday. The first leg in Poland last week ended in a 1-1 draw after Yaroslav Rakitskyi’s 79th-minute opener was canceled out by Feyenoord forward Ezequiel Bullaude two minutes from time. Meanwhile, both sides are heading into the match on the back of victories in their respective league-outings this weekend, with the hosts securing a 2-1 Eredivisie-win over FC Volendam, while Shakhtar thrashed Kryvbas KR 3-0 in the Ukrainian Premier League.
Good vibes only.

Feyenoord got the better of FC Volendam, courtesy of Santiago Gimenez’s 52nd-minute effort and an own goal by Damon Mirani, 16 minutes from time. The result extended De Stadionclub’s unbeaten run to 19 games in all competitions, and it was their fifth successive league-win. Arne Slot’s men are sitting at the top spot of the Dutch top flight standings, having collected 58 points from 25 games, just three clear of the chasing pack. Having lost just three of their 35 games across all competitions this season, the Pride of South will be confident of sealing the deal on Thursday.
Shakhtar, on the other hand, will consider themselves fortunate to be still very much alive in the tie as they were clearly bullied by the Dutch outfit in the first leg in Warsaw. Feyenoord created more than 20 goal-scoring chances and recorded six shots on goal, compared to just one by the Ukrainian club. But credit to the Miners defence to withstand wave after wave of pressure from Feyenoord attackers. Three days after the hard-fout draw, Igor Jovicevic’s side thrashed Kryvbas in the league, thanks to second half efforts from Heorhiy Sudakov, Kevin Kelsy and Marian Shved. It was Shakhtar’s 12th win from 16 league-games, taking their points tally to 39, three clear of second-placed Dnipro-1 in the Ukrainian top flight standings.
