Fenerbahce will host Sevilla in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League last-16 tie at Sukru Saracoglu on Thursday. The first leg in Seville last week ended 2-0 in favour of the La Liga outfit thanks to second-half efforts from Joan Jordan and Erik Lamela. Meanwhile, the visitors are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 win over Almeria in the Spanish top flight this weekend. Fenerbahce, on the other hand, have not been involved in the Turkish Super Lig since getting the better of Kayserispor 2-1 on March 4.

Fenerbahce are currently occupying second spot in the Turkish top flight standings, having collected 51 points from 23 games, nine adrift of leaders Galatasaray, who have played an extra game. The Beacon of Light’s defeat to Sevilla last week was their first loss across all competitions since being thrashed 3-0 by Galatasaray in the league on January 8. Although the Yellow Canaries gave a good account of themselves at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan last Thursday, creating 12 goal-scoring chances and recording five shots on goal, the Sevillistas Rojiblancos were more clinical in front of goal.
Despite going through a torrid La Liga campaign, Sevilla once again showed their capabilities in the continental stage, having kept one foot in the last-8 stage of the Europa League. After two consecutive defeats in the La Liga, Jorge Sampaoli’s side got back to winning ways against Almeria this Sunday, thanks to Lucas Ocampos’ penalty kick on the stroke of half-time and Lamela’s 73rd-minute effort. It was their seventh league-win of the season and the Red-Whites are currently languishing at the 13th spot in the Spanish top flight standings, with 28 points to their name from 25 games, just two points clear of the relegation zone.
