Manchester United will be looking to seal their progress to the quarter-finals of UEFA Europa League when they travel to Benito Villamarin on Thursday to take on Real Betis in the second leg of their last-16 tie. The first leg at Old Trafford last week ended 4-1 in favour of United, courtesy of goals from Marcus Rashford, Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst. Ayoz Perez’s 32nd-minute effort proved to be just a consolation goal for Betis. Meanwhile, both sides are heading into the match on the back of draws in their respective league-fixtures this weekend, with the hosts playing out a goalless Premier League-draw against Southampton, while Betis came from behind to earn a point away to Villarreal (1-1) in the La Liga.

Since the 3-2 victory over Elche in the Spanish top flight on February 25, Betis are winless in their next three outings in all competitions, which includes draws against Real Madrid and Villarreal in the league. Last time out Manuel Pellegrini’s side shared the spoils against the Yellow Submarine at El Madrigal, courtesy of Yeremy Pino’s 55th-minute equaliser. The Green and Whites are currently occupying fifth spot in the La Liga Santander, having collected 42 points from 25 games, just three points adrift of the top-four. Meanwhile, last season, Betis lost out to Eintracht Frankfurt in the last-16 stage of Europa League, and once again the Verederons are on the verge of getting eliminated at this stage, unless a miracle happens in Seville.

Manchester United, on the other hand, are high on confidence after eliminating Barcelona in the playoffs and now have one step firmly in the last-8 stage of Europe’s second tier tournament after the thumping victory against yet another Spanish outfit last Thursday. But the Red Devils are going through a tumultuous period in the English top flight, having suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month, before being held to a 0-0 draw against rock-bottom side Southampton in Manchester on Sunday. Despite the poor run of form, Erik ten Hag’s side are holding on to the third spot in the Premier League standings, with 50 points to their name from 26 games, just two clear of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who have played an extra match.
