Brighton are currently occupying seventh spot in the English top tier standings, having collected 42 points from 25 games, just five adrift of the top-five. Roberto De Zerbi’s side defeated Crystal Palace on Wednesday, thanks to Solly March’s lone goal inside the opening 15 minutes. Meanwhile Brighton booked a place in the last eight of the FA Cup, courtesy of edging past Stoke in the fifth round fixture at Bet 365 Stadium less than three weeks ago, thanks to Evan Ferguson’s lone goal on the half hour-mark. The Seagulls’ most recent trip to Wembley came in the 2018-19 semi-finals, where they were sent packing by eventual winners Manchester City.
Grimsby, on the other hand, are looking to become the first League Two side to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup. The Mariners started their fairytale run by defeating Plymouth Argyle, before getting the better of Cambridge, Burton Albion, Luton Town and most recently Southampton to prolong their memorable journey. The English fourth tier side overcame the Saints 2-1 in the previous round at St. Mary’s Stadium, thanks to Gavan Holohan’s brace from the penalty spot. On Tuesday, Grimsby defeated Sutton United in the League Two, courtesy of Miche Efete’s lone goal in the first-half. The Mariners are languishing at the 15th spot in the English fourth tier standings, with 45 points to their name from 34 matches.
