Sheffield United are currently occupying second spot in the Championship standings, having collected 70 points from 37 games. On Wednesday, the Blades came from behind to beat Sunderland at Stadium of Light, thanks to James McAtee’s equaliser on the stroke of half-time and Tom Doyle’s winner on the hour mark. Having now strengthened their position once again in the fight for automatic qualification with nine league-games to go, Sheffield United will now turn their attention to the cup. Paul Heckingbottom’s side overcame the likes of Millwall, Wrexham and Tottenham Hotspur to reach the last eight stage of the FA Cup. In the previous round, the Blades secured a narrow 1-0 win over Spurs at Bramall Lane, courtesy of Iliman Ndiaye’s solo goal eleven minutes from time.
Blackburn Rovers, on the other hand, got the better of Leicester City 2-1 in their FA Cup last1-16 fixture. The Riversiders booked a place in the quarter-finals, courtesy of goals from Tyrhys Dolan and Sammie Szmodics. Although Kelechi Iheanacho pulled one back for the Foxes at King Power Stadium, the Rovers held on to the slender lead and secured the victory. Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side are also heavily involved in the fight for promotion to the top tier this season, having pocketed 61 points from 37 games, to be sitting at the fifth spot in the Championship standings. The Blue and Whites got the better of Reading in their last outing on Wednesday, thanks to Ben Breretn Diaz’s second-minute opener and a dramatic 82nd-minite winner from Ryan Hedges.
