World Cup bound side Morocco will take on Chile in an international friendly in Spain on Friday night. The African outfit secured a spot in the upcoming global event in Qatar, courtesy of overcoming Democratic Republic of Congo in a Two legged tie in the third round of qualification. Chile, meanwhile, missed out on the World Cup courtesy of finishing sixth in the South American qualification group, only the top four teams earned a direct qualification to the World Cup, while the fifth-placed side went through the inter-continental playoff tie. Morocco are heading into the match on the back of a 2-0 win over Liberia in a 2023 AFCON Qualifiers in June, while Chile suffered a narrow defeat to Ghana on penalties in a Kim Cup tie in the same month.

Morocco firstly cruised through their second round of qualifying group with six wins from as many games, booking a two-legged tie with Congo in March. The first leg against Congo ended in a 1-1 draw, while the Atlas Lions secured a thumping 4-1 victory in the return leg to get through with a 5-2 aggregate win.  Azzedine Ounahi scored a brace, while Tarik Tissoudali and Achraf Hakimi netted one goal each for Morocco in the second leg. After securing the World Cup qualification, the Atlas Lions kicked off their AFCON qualifiers with back-to-back wins against South Africa (2-1) and Liberia (2-0).

Chile, on the other hand, don’t have the World Cup to look forward to. Therefore, La Roja would be looking to build their squad for the future. After losing the final two qualification games against Brazil and Uruguay, La Roja traveled to Asia for friendlies losing to South Korea, Tunisia and Ghana. The South America outfit haven’t found the back of the net in their last three games and their last victory was in February.  Eduardo Berizzo’s side would be desperate to build some confidence in this round of friendlies with a pair of positive results.
