The Lions narrowly missed out on a Championship playoff spot last term following an eighth place finish in the standings and will be hoping to go at least one step further this time around. The visitors, meanwhile, claimed 13th place in the 2022-23 Eredivisie standings and would be bidding to challenge for a mid-table finish in the upcoming Dutch top flight campaign.

Millwall were well and truly in the hunt for a playoff spot but having recorded two wins and four defeats from their final six league-games, the Lions finished with 68 points to their name, just a solitary point adrift of the top six. Meanwhile, on their return for the pre-season mid-way through this month, Gary Rowett’s men secured back-to-back wins against Gillingham and Sutton before being held to a 2-2 draw by League One outfit Charlton last time out. On Wednesday, the Lions fought back from 2-0 down to level the score thanks to second-half efforts from Kevin Nisbet and and Aidomo Emakhu. Saturday’s fixture will be Millwall’s final pre-season friendly before kicking off their 2023-24 Championship campaign away to Middlesbrough on August 5.
Sittard, on the other hand, extended their stay in the Dutch top flight for a sixth successive season despite taking just three points from their final eight league-matches last term. Fortuna collected a total of 36 points from 34 Eredivisie games, just eight points clear of the drop zone. Moreover, the Fortunezen haven’t had a great pre-season thus far, recording one draw and two defats this summer. Last Saturday, Sittard lost to Wehen courtesy of Kianz Froese’s lone goal three minutes into the second-half. After the game against Millwall, Fortuna will play one more friendly with VVV early next month before beginning their 2023-24 Dutch top flight campaign away to Feyenoord on August 13.
