It is safe to say that Chelsea are going through a bad run of form so far this season. The Blues are struggling to hit their past heights which has seen them dominate the Premier League. The optimism was high at the start of the campaign, with the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager. Additionally, plenty of exciting new signings were made and many players also departed the club.

However, Chelsea were still not able to find their feet and continued to struggle just like last season when they finished outside the top half of the Premier League table. There are plenty of reasons for this. One of them is injuries and the other is new players taking their time to get used to the manager’s style of play. While the transfer rumours primarily focussed on some big-name arrivals and departures, there was one fringe player who was in the limelight towards the end of the window.

Mauricio Pochettino on Marc Cucurella

Marc Cucurella was linked with a potential loan move to Manchester United. However, the deal never materialised and he ended up staying at Stamford Bridge. Even though Cucurella has not been involved in the Premier League this season, he could soon get his opportunities due to Chelsea’s injury concerns. Mauricio Pochettino is also happy with Cucurella’s commitment. “He was really good against Brighton on Wednesday playing on the right side. He is doing so well. I am so happy with his performance and commitment. That is what we expect from our players,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

Mykhailo Mudryk is another player about whom Pochettino discussed. Mudryk has also struggled at Chelsea since his big-money move to Stamford Bridge. However, the manager is happy with his development so far. “Mischa is a very talented player of course. You need to go with him slowly. His culture is very different, but he is trying to be more open, to adapt, to be more involved, on and off the pitch,” the manager explained.

He added: “He is doing a massive effort to try to integrate himself and understand better what it means to play in the team. It’s not about arriving and performing when you are young. It’s about adapting, helping them to settle. Then the most difficult thing is to understand what they need to settle and feel comfortable and express their talent. He is young and he is going to improve, and we are so happy with the way he is improving.”
