Man City put two goals past Chelsea without reply to extend their winning streak at home turf to 16 games across all competitions. Riyad Mahrez broke the deadlock eight minutes into the second half before Julian Alvarez doubled the lead five minutes later and helped Man City to advance to the fourth round of the competition. Prior to that, the Cityzens secured a dramatic 2-1 win over Fulham in a league-match last Saturday. Alvarez put the home side ahead inside the opening 16 minutes before Andreas Perreira equlaised for Fulham in the 28th-minute. Just when it looked like the game might end in a draw, Erling Haaland converted a 95th-minute spot-kick to help Pep Guardiola’s side secure all three points. It was Man City’s 10th league-win of the campaign.
Brentford, on the other hand, have recorded just three league-wins this season. The Bees are winless in the league since the 2-0 victory against Brighton on October 15. Last time out, Thomas Frank’s side suffered a disappointing EFL Cup exit at home to League Two outfit Gillingham on Tuesday night. Mikael Mandron scored in the final 15 minutes to cancel out Ivan Toney’s third-minute opener. And the visitors managed to get the better of the Premier League outfit in the penalties. Prior to that, the Bees conceded a 96h-minute equaliser to draw 2-2 away to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last weekend. It was their seventh league-draw of the season.
