Luton Town will be looking to make it three successive wins in the English Premier League when they play host to Chelsea at Kenilworth Road on Saturday. The hosts secured a thrilling 3-2 victory away to Sheffield United on Boxing Day, while the Blues are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 success over Crystal Palace in the mid-week. Back-to-back wins have helped the Hatters to move to 15 points from 18 league games, and they are currently sitting at the 18th spot in the English top flight standings, just a solitary point adrift of safety. The visitors, meanwhile, are occupying tenth position in the table, with 25 points to their name from 19 top flight outings, 12 away from the top four.

Luton’s current crop of players wrote their names into the Hatters history books on Boxing Day, as they made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time ever. Rob Edwards’ men traveled to Bramall Lane on the back of a narrow 1-0 victory over last season’s’s fourth-place finishers Newcastle United on December 23. The Hatters took the lead through Alfie Doughty’s 17th-minute opener, before Sheffield United came out all guns blazing in the second-half and found the back of the net twice thanks to Oli McBurnie (61) and Anel Ahmedhodzic (69). However, a calamitous collapse saw Jack Robinson’s header nestle into his own net, four minutes before Anis Ben Slimane deflected the ball beyond a stranded Wes Foderingham. It was Luton’s fourth league-win of the campaign, and Edwards’ men are now within touching distance of 17th-placed Everton, with a game in hand. Victory on Saturday could help the Hatters climb as high as the 16th spot.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have struggled to get going this season despite spending high in the summer transfer window, recording seven wins, four draws and eight defeats from 19 league games so far. The Blues secured an unconvincing victory over Palace on Wednesday thanks to Mykhailo Mudryk’s 13th-minute opener and Noni Madueke’s 89th-minute winner from the penalty spot. The result helped Mauricio Pochettino’s side to sneak back into the top half of the table, 11 points adrift of the top five. Meanwhile, Pochettino’s men are heading into Saturday contest on the back of a four successive away-defeats in the Premier League, conceding ten goals in the process.
