Turkey will look to extend its dominant start to the 2022 UEFA Nations League campaign when it travels to Lithuania. The Tuesday night clash which will be played at Žalgiris Stadium will be the second match for both sides. They both started their campaign in contrasting fashions. Turkey could not have wished for a better start than the 4-0 thumping win they gained against Faroe Islands. Lithuania, however, suffered a 2-0 defeat against Luxembourg. For Turkey, it is all about maintaining the winning feeling, while Lithuania would be keen to bounce back quickly from the opening defeat.

Earlier, Turkey had a dream start to life in League C Group 1, trouncing Faroe Islands. Despite a dominant start, the Turkish side had to wait till the end of the half to score the opener through Cengiz Under. Then Halil Dervisoglu scored one at the beginning of the second period before Serdar Dursun and Merih Demiral added two late goals to seal a comfortable win in Istanbul. They are the heavy favourites to qualify from the group and their victory over Faroe Islands has just proven why.

On the other hand, Lithuania had a start to forget, as they were well beaten by Luxembourg. Lithuania, who were just able to avoid relegation to League D of the 2020 Nations League, did provide more of a challenge to their opponents in their last game. However, a double by Danel Sinani – one each at the end of both halves – helped Luxembourg start with a win. Playing in front of the home supporters for a second time, Lithuania will hope to put up a good fight in front of the local fans on Tuesday.

Possible line-ups

Not many changes are expected to be made by both sides on Tuesday. Lithuania, who are expected to start once again in a 4-2-3-1 formation, will face a tough choice for the starting position up front. The battle will be between Augustinas Klimavicius and Karolis Laukzemis for a starting role. Hapoel Tel Aviv goalkeeper Ernestas Setkus will be the skipper for his side. On the other hand, Turkey named a strong eleven for their opener against Faroe Islands. They are expected to follow that trend with the side led by skipper and Inter Milan attacker Hakan Calhanoglu. Halil Dervisoglu, who scored in the last game, is expected to lead the line for them.

Lithuania possible line-up: Setkus, Baravykas, Utkus, Satkus, Barauskas, Megelaitis, Slivka, Novikovas, Lasickas, Petkevicius, Laukzemis

Turkey possible line-up: Cakir, Muldur, Soyuncu, Demiral, Kadioglu, Under, Tokoz, Akturkoglu, Calhanoglu, Unal, Dervisoglu
