The UEFA Euro Qualifier between Lithuania and Bulgaria will take place at Darius and Girenas Stadium on Saturday at 6:30 pm IST.
In their second Euro 2024 qualifying match, Lithuania will be up against Bulgaria at Darius and Girenas Stadium on Saturday. Lithuania, playing at home, suffered a 2-0 loss to Serbia in their opening game. On the other hand, Bulgaria, the visiting team, has experienced consecutive defeats, which have positioned them at the bottom of Group G.
Lithuania is aiming for their first competitive victory as they prepare to face Bulgaria this weekend under coach Edgaras Jankauskas’s guidance. Previously managing the national team from January 2016 until December 2018, Jankauskas returned in February. The defeat in the opening qualifier, coupled with their absence in the second round, has left Lithuania without any points so far. They are determined to change this situation, although their recent home performances in European Championship qualification matches offer little confidence. Their record shows three consecutive losses on their own turf. Lithuania has only managed to win two out of their 13 matches in front of their home fans since 2010, indicating their struggles to qualify for the finals since the mid-1990s.
Bulgaria, currently at the bottom of the group, is determined to avoid falling further behind the top teams by preventing a third consecutive loss on Saturday. Under Mladen Krstajic’s leadership, the team suffered consecutive defeats against Montenegro and Hungary three months ago, losing 1-0 and 3-0 respectively, without managing to score a goal. Their inability to find the back of the net has been a significant obstacle, especially considering that they had opportunities to score in both of those losses. During the 1-0 home defeat to Montenegro, Spas Delev and Ilia Gruev were particularly responsible, and had the result been different in that opening game, Bulgaria might not have found themselves in such a precarious situation. Having suffered five defeats in seven away matches (with two draws), their prospects do not look promising, especially as they have failed to score in five of those away games.
