Juventus and Sassuolo will kick off their 2022-23 Serie A campaign at the Allianz Stadium on Monday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a disappointing 4-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in their final pre-season friendly last Sunday, while Sassuolo suffered a surprise 3-2 loss at Modena in the Coppa Italia first round fixture on the same day. Juventus had a disappointing Serie A campaign last term, finishing fourth in the standings with 70 points, 16 points adrift of the champions AC milan. Sassuolo, meanwhile, managed to secure an 11th-place finish.

Juventus participated in four friendlies this summer, recording one win, a draw and two defeats. Their only victory came against CD Guadalajara (2-0) last month. Massimilano Allegri’s side have made four big signings this summer, bringing in Paul Pogba from Manchester United, Angel di Maria from PSG, Filip Kostic and defender Giorgio Bremer. Meanwhile there have been some notable departures in the form of Paulo Dybala, Douglas Costa, Federico Bernardeschi and Giorgio Chiellini.

Sassuolo, on the other hand, have been very active in the summer market, signing seven players, with six of them on permanent deals. Andrea Pinamonti arrives from Inter via a successful lean spell at Empoli. Uruguayan forward Agustin Alvarez has been the biggest buy for the Black and Greens this summer. Sassuolo had an impressive pre-season, registering three wins and a draw. In their recent outing against Pesaro, Goals from Kristian Thorstvedt, Maxime Lopez, Alvarez and Giacomo Raspadori helped Alessio Dionisi’s side secure all the win.
Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is sidelined with a thigh injury, therefore Perin is likely to occupy the goal. Moise Kean and Adrien Rabiot are suspended for Monday’s game. Leonardo Bonucci will partner Bremer and Danilo in the central defence with Cuadrado and Kostic occupying the flanks. New arrival Di Maria could feature against the Black and Whites. As for Sassuolo, forward Hamed Traore is nursing a foot injury, therefore new recruit Alvarez is expected to lead the line with Ceide and Berardi in support.
