Juvntus will host old rivals Inter Milan in a Serie A fixture at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday night. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of UEFA Champions League defeats in the mid-week. The hosts suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, while Inter were defeated 2-0 away to Bayern Munich. Losing for a second time to PSG on Wednesday saw the Bianconeri demoted to the Europa League playoffs, as they finished third in Group H. Although Leonardo Bonucci canceled out Kylian Mbappe’s opener, Nuno Mendes’ 69th-minute strike handed Juve their fifth Champions League-defeat of the campaign in six outings. Prior to that, Max Allegri’s side secured a narrow 1-0 win over Lecce in a league fixture courtesy of Nicolo Fagioli’s 73rd-minute strike. It was Juve’s sixth league-win of the season.
Inter, on the other hand, defeated Barcelona to qualify for the Champions League last 16. After securing a 4-3 aggregate win over Barca, Inter thrashed Viktoria Plzen 4-0 to seal their place in the knockout stages of the competition. Despite losing their final group match to Bayern, Simone Inzaghi’s side would go through as runners-up from Group C. Prior to the Bayern loss, Nerazzurri thrashed Sampdoria 3-0 courtesy of goals from Stefa De Vrij, Nicolo Barella and Joaquin Correa.
