Inter Milan will host Barcelona in a UEFA Champions League fixture at San Siro on Tuesday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 defeat to AS Roma in a Serie A match on Saturday. Barcelona, meanwhile, secured a narrow 1-0 win over Mallorca in a La Liga game on the same day. Inter Milan are currently occupying third position in Group C of the Champions League, having won one of their opening two games, while the visitors are sitting one place above them, level on points, but separated by goal-difference.

Inter Milan began their 2022-23 Champions League campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on September 7 before getting the better of Viktoria Plzen with a similar scorline, six days later. Against the Czech outfit, Inter netted two times without reply courtesy of goals from Edin Dzeko and Denzel Dumfries. Meanwhile, last time out, Inter lost to Roma in an Italian top flight match despite the fact that Fedrico Dimarco put them in front on the half hour-mark.  The defeat has left Simone inzaghi’s struggling to cope with fellow Serie A title-contenders. Nerazzurri are currently sitting at the ninth position in the Italian top division standings, having pocketed 12 points from eight games, eight adrift of leaders Napoli.

Barcelona, on the other hand, have lost just one of their opening 10 games across all competitions this term. The Spanish outfit’s lone defeat came against Bayern Munich in a Champions League match last month. However, Xavi’s side were quick to get their acts together as they got the better of Mallorcoa on Saturday, courtesy of Robert Lewandowski’s lone strike in the 20th-minute. It was Blaugrana’s six consecutive La Liga win since drawing against Rayo Vallecano on the opening day. The result helped Barcelona to move to the summit of the League table, having collected 19 points, level with defending champions Real Madrid, but separated by goal-difference.
