Former Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick has signed his contract to take charge of the German national team after this summer’s European Championship, succeeding current coach Joachim Low, the German FA announced. Flick was a former Germany assistant to Low until 2014. Then led Bayern to six titles in 2020 and also won this season’s Bundesliga crown but decided to leave the champions after 18 months in charge. He was long considered the favourite to succeed Low.

Low, who had a contract until 2022, led Germany to the World Cup title in 2014 with Flick as his assistant, and the 2017 Confederations Cup. The Germans crashed out in the first round in the 2018 World Cup and have been struggling to perform at the highest level despite possessing a strong set of players.

BAYERN MUNICH’S DOMINANCE UNDER FLICK

Flick showed what his team was about and their style: exciting attacking football. After opening with a 2-0 win against Olympiakos in the Champions League, Flick went straight into the top Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena, put an impressive display with a 4-0 victory. That was followed by another two wins in the next two matches with an incredible goal difference of 16 for and 0 against from 4 games. That was the best start for a Bayern coach in the Bundesliga.

Bayern were not only setting the pace at home but Hansi Flick’s team also demonstrated their class in Europe. For example, thrashing Barcelona at the Camp Nou. Barcelona were knocked out of the competition on the end of an 8-2 thrashing by Bayern. The Flick team were on fire and impressed with great play and movement. That clearly emphasized the title ambitions.

The final record for Flick in 86 games was 70 matches won ,with 8 defeats and 8 draws, and an incredible seven titles.
