Georgia have certainly defied all the expectations to produce such stunning performances in the current Nations League campaign. Their run coming into June was promising with four wins and a draw in their last five matches. Their good run has carried into the Nations League having won all their three fixtures till now. Willy Sagnol’s side brushed aside Gibraltar 4-0 while recording a 5-2 victory over Bulgaria four days later. They also comprehensively defeated North Macedonia 3-0 to extend the lead at top of the group to five points with three matchdays to go.
Situation does not provide a similar encouraging environment for Bulgaria as they find themselves in complete shambles. Yet to record a win in the current Nations League campaign, Bulgaria are uncomfortably close to the relegation spot. The 5-2 defeat in the reverse fixture against Georgia saw manager Yasen Petrov being relieved of his duties and was replaced by Georgi Ivanov. This was followed by a shock 1-1 draw against minnows, Gibraltar. Their first match against North Macedonia in the group too ended in a 1-1 draw. Anything other than a victory in Sunday’s match will drastically increase their chances of relegation.
As far as Georgia are concerned not many alterations are expected from their match against North Macedonia as they look to carry forward their amazing run except maybe for the likes of Otar Kiteishvili, who might find a place in the starting XI after netting in their latest fixture, coming on as a substitute. Other than that, Khvicha Kvaratskheila suffered an injury in the North Macedonia game and might be unavailable. Bulgaria, on the other hand, might try several changes as they look to reverse their fortunes, with the most prominent one being of Kiril Despodov’s call to the starting XI. Fitness wise, Bulgaria have a full squad available.
Georgia possible line-up: Mamardashvili, Kvirkvelia, Kashia, Khocholava, Kakabadze, Aburjania, Kvekveskiri, Tsitaishvili, Kvaratskhelia, Davitashvili, Zivzivadze.
Bulgaria possible line-up: Vutsov, Popov, Hristov, Chorbadzhiyski, Jordanov, Milanov, Kraev, Milanov, Stefanov, Despodov, Minchev.
