Flamengo will host Deportes Tolima in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores round of 16 fixture at Maracana on Wednesday. The first leg at Estadio Manuel Murillo Toro finished 1-0 in favour of Flamengo, courtesy of Andreas Perreira’s 17th-minute strike. Meanwhile the hosts are heading into the tie on the back of a 2-1 win at Santos in the Brazilian league fixture last Saturday.  In the continental competition, Deportes progressed to the last-16 courtesy of a second-place finish in Group D, while the visitors cruised through as Group H winners.

Flamengo were one of only three teams to make it through to the last-16 stage without losing a game, the other being River Plate and defending champions Palmeiras, and they dropped only two points during that process. However, their domestic form hasn’t been very great, winning three of their last seven encounters, while the other four ended in defeats. Their latest victory at Santos came courtesy of goals from Pedro and Babriel Barbosa on either side of Vinicius Zanocelo’s strike.

Deportes, on the other hand, are the last standing Colombian outfit in the competition and would be aiming to secure a victory in order to go through to the next round. The reigning Colombian champions lost just one of their group fixtures to reach this far. Hernan Torres’ side displayed a very good performance in the first leg at home, recording 52% of ball possession and attempting five shots on target compared to just two by the Brazilian outfit, but failed to find the back of the net and in the end lost to a solitary goal. Their solid team performance is a big part of what has made them successful to this point of the 2022 season and put them in a position to advance into the last eight.
