The UEFA Champions League match between FK Zalgiris vs Struga will take place at LFF Stadium on Tuesday at 9:30 pm IST.
On Tuesday night, FK Zalgiris and Struga will begin their Champions League qualification campaign as they face each other at the LFF Stadium in the first round. In the previous season, Zalgiris made it to the third qualifying round but was ultimately defeated by Bodo/Glimt. On the other hand, Struga has never been able to qualify for the Champions League in the past.
FK Zalgiris secured their third consecutive A Lyga title in 2022, finishing 21 points ahead of Kauno Zalgiris. However, their current campaign has been more challenging as they trail Panevezys by three points and have played an extra game. In the second half of the season, Zalgiris has shown improvement, earning 38 points from their last 15 matches, the highest in the Lithuanian top flight. They even defeated league leaders Panevezys 2-1, with Mathias Oyewusi scoring a late winner. Oyewusi has been in excellent form, netting seven goals in his last four games, contributing to Zalgiris’ recent 3-1 victory over Riteriai. Despite being a relatively new club, Struga claimed their first-ever league title in the 2022-23 season, establishing themselves as a force in the Macedonian First League.
Struga, led by Shpetim Duro, clinched the league title with an impressive 10-point margin, accumulating 68 points from 30 games. They sealed their top spot by winning their last six league matches. Despite their domestic success, they stumbled in the Macedonian Cup final, losing in a penalty shootout to Makedonija Gjorce Petrov. In preparation for their Champions League debut, Struga participated in three friendly matches, but failed to secure a victory, with their most recent result being a 2-1 loss to Tirana from Albania. While their recent form may not be ideal, the team is undoubtedly thrilled to embark on their first-ever Champions League campaign after gaining initial European experience in the Europa Conference League last season.
