The latest meeting between these two sides was less than five months ago, which ended 2-1 in favour of Bologna, courtesy of second half strikes from Musa Barrow and Marko Arnautovic.
Bologna will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run in Serie A to four games, when they travel to Stadio Artemio Franchi to take on Fiorentina on Sunday. The visitors are heading into the match on the back of a convincing 2-0 win over Spezia in the league, last week, while Fiorentina secured a 2-1 Coppa Italia quarter-final victory over Torino in the mid-week. As of now, Bologna are occupying ninth spot in the Italian top flight standings, having collected 26 points from 20 games, while Viola are sitting three places behind them, with 24 points to their name.

Fiorentina are going through a tough patch in the Italian top flight, having recorded just one win from their last six league matches. Their latest Serie A match away to fourth-placed Lazio ended in a 1-1 draw courtesy of Nicolas Gonzalez’s 49th-minute equaliser. After that, Vincenzo Italiano’s side hosted Torino in the Coppa Italia last-8 encounter. A Luka Jovic header and Jonathan Ake’s 90th-minute strike put Italiano’s side on the verge of progress, before Toro pulled one back through Yann Karamoh’s 93rd-minute effort and set up a tense finale at the Franchi. But the Fiorentina defence managed to hold on to the slender lead and sealed progress.
Bologna, on the other hand, lost to Lazio in the last-16 stage of the Cup competition, more than two weeks ago and therefore are left with only the Serie A to focus on. Thiago Mota’s side claimed an impressive 19 points from their last 10 Serie A games. Their latest outing against a struggling Spezia ended in a 2-0 win, courtesy of a goal in either half through Stefan Posch and Riccardo Orsolini. It was the Red and Blues’ seventh top flight victory of the season.
The latest meeting between these two sides was less than five months ago, which ended 2-1 in favour of Bologna, courtesy of second half strikes from Musa Barrow and Marko Arnautovic. Meanwhile Viola are way ahead in the head-to-head record, having secured 59 wins compared to 44 victories for Bologna, while 50 encounters ended in draws.
