The FIFA World Cup is a footballing extravaganza, more of an escape route to many fans around the globe as it brings joy and excitement as well as gives the people something to look forward to; the 2022 FIFA World Cup is expected to be the most watched tournament in the history of the game as it could potentially see a lot of the game’s greats hang their boots from the international circuit. 

The 2018 edition of the FIFA World Cup was watched by four billion people, and the last Women’s FIFA World Cup by over 1.2 billion people. FIFA has successfully developed all aspects of the game, including advancements in match ball design. Over the years, more and more technology has been introduced into the ball design, improving its resistance to moisture and efficiency.

Adidas, earlier this year, talking about match balls, revealed the 2022 FIFA World Cup match ball,  Al Rihla. Adidas, the German manufacturer, has consistently produced high-quality FIFA World Cup balls, and Al Rihla is the 14th on the list.

‘Al Rihlia’ means ‘The Journey’ in Arabic. The ball is said to be heavily influenced by Qatar’s approach to life and the country’s flag, architecture, and boats, with triangular shapes crisscrossing the ball. As the game is getting rapidly quicker, the accuracy and aerodynamic stability become critically influential.

 The new design from the Al Rihla allows the ball to keep its tempo and maintain the frequency rate as it cuts through the air. Al Rihla is said to be the most technologically advanced ball, capable of flying through faster than ever. As the years go by, innovations have improved in creating the perfect ball the beautiful game deserves.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place in Qatar from November 20 to December 18; 32 teams to battle it out in eight groups and the mega event kicks off on Sunday, November 20, at the Al Bayt Stadium when the hosts, Qatar, take on Ecuador.
