Feyenoord will play PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Super Cup final at De Kuip on Friday. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of victories in their final pre-season friendlies at the weekend, with the De Stadionclub defeating Benfica 2-1, while PSV edged past Nottingham Forest 1-0. Feyenoord won the Eredivisie title last term courtesy of collecting 82 points from 34 games, seven points clear of second-placed Boeren, who won the KNVB Cup title by defeating Ajax in the final.

Feyenoord claimed only their second Dutch top flight title in the last 24 years by recording 25 wins, seven draws and just two defeats from 34 league-matches. However, Arne Slot’s side had little time to celebrate before some of the members of the title-winning squad decided their destiny lay elsewhere. The Rotterdam club returned for the pre-season on July 8 and played six friendlies, recording three wins, two draws and one defeat in the process. The Pride of South rounded off their preparations for the new season with an impressive victory over Portuguese Primeira Liga champions Benfica on Sunday thanks to first half goals from Igor Paixao and Santiago Tomas Gimenez. Meanwhile, during the pre-season period, Slot’s side have integrated new signings Calvin Stengs and Ramiz Zerrouki and they aim to successfully defend their league-title.
PSV, on the other hand, were the best attacking unit in the Eredivisie last season, scoring 89 league-goals from 34 games. Attacking midfielder Xavi Simons, with 19 scalps to his name, was the top goal-scorer in the 2022-23 Dutch top flight, while striker Luuk de Jong also netted 14 league-goals for the Red and Whites. Meanwhile, the former has left De Kuip to join his parent club Paris Saint-Germain. Ruud van Nistelroy’s men began their warm-up program on a losing note, but then got their acts together to record four consecutive victories against the likes of BW Linz, Augsburg, Eindhoven FC and Nottingham. Johan Bakayoko’s lone goal was enough for the Lampen to get the better of Forest last time out.
Feyenoord probable starting lineup: Bijlow, Pedersen, Geertruida, Hancko, Hartman, Wieffer, Zerrouki, Jahanbakhsh, Stengs, Paixao, Gimenez
PSV Eindhoven probable starting lineup: Benitez, Sambo, Ramalho, Boscagli, Van Aanholt, Sangare, Veerman, Babadi, Bakayoko, De Jong, Lang
