Everton had a disappointing Premier League season last time out, narrowly avoiding relegation courtesy of finishing 17th in the standings, collecting 36 points from 38 games, just two points clear of the drop zone. Meanwhile, the Toffees returned for the pre-season midway through July and have played four friendlies so far, recording three wins and a draw in the process. The Blues got the better of Stoke at Bet365 stadium last time out thanks to Amadou Onana’s lone goal six minutes into the injury time. Everton start their 2023-24 Premier League season against Fulham at Goodison Park next Saturday.
Sporting CP, on the other hand, finished fourth in the Portuguese top flight last term and had to settle for a Europa Conference League qualification spot. The Lions have been unbeaten in their pre-season so far, registering four wins and two draws from six friendlies. The Green and Whites put three goals past Villarreal on Sunday thanks to goals from Marcus Edwards, Pedro Goncalves and Paulinho. The Swedish footballer scored 40 goals for the English second tier side in the past two seasons and has already opened his account for his new club, finding the back of the net against Real Sociedad.
