Real Sociedad will be aiming to get back to winning ways, when they travel to Cornella to take on Espanyol in a La Liga fixture on Monday. Despite the defeat, Real Sociedad are sitting at the third spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 39 points from 20 games, six adrift of second-placed Real Madrid and four clear of Atletico Madrid at the fourth position. The hosts, meanwhile, are languishing at the 17th spot, with just 21 points to their name, just one point above the relegation zone.

Espanyol came from behind to earn a point against Osasuna last time out, thanks to Martin Braithwaite’s 59th-minute effort to cancel out Ante Budimir’s first-half opener. It was their ninth league-draw of the season, while the Catalan outfit has triumphed only in four top flight games. Only rock-bottom side Elche have won fewer La Liga games than Espanyol this season. The White and Blues’ last victory came against top-four hopefuls Real Betis on January 21, courtesy of Braithwaite’s lone goal on the stroke of half-time.
Real Sociedad, on the other hand, are having a stellar season, having recorded 12 wins in the league thus far, only bettered by Real Madrid (14)and leaders Barcelona(17). La Real’s last win came against Rayo Vallecano on January 21, through first-half strikes from Alexander Sorloth and Ander Barrenetxea. After that, the Basque outfit went on a three game winless streak, losing to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey, played out a goalless draw against Real Madrid in the league, before suffering a narrow defeat to Valladolid. Cyle Larin’s 73rd minute effort handed Immanol Alguacil’s side their fifth league-defeat of the campaign last time out.

Espanyol’s injury list consists of Joselu, Keidi Bare and Adria Pedrosa, while Cesar Montes is doubtful for Monday’s game and Ronael Pierre-Gabriel is suspended due to the red card he picked up against Osasuna. Braithwaite, who has scored twice in his last three outings, will lead the line, with Javi Puado in support. As for Real Sociedad, the likes of Artiz Elustondo, David Silva, Jon Pacheco, Mohamed Al-Cho, Andoni Gorosabel, Mikel Merino, Ander Guevara, Alex Sola and Martin Merquelanz are occupying the treatment room.
