Dynamo Dresden will host Stuttgart in the first round of the DFB-Pokal at Glucksgas stadium on Friday. The hosts did not have a great season last term, finishing 16th in the 2 Bundesliga table and got relegated to the third tier of German football. The visitors, on the other hand, survived relegation by the skin of their teeth, courtesy of finishing 15th in the 2021-22 Bundesliga standings, level on points with the relegation zone but separated by goal-difference. Stuttgart had an impressive pre-season, winning all four of their friendlies against Bohlingen (7-1), FC Zurich (3-2), Brentford (2-1) and Valencia. Last Saturday, at Mercedes-Benz Arena, Silas, Darko Churlinov and Tiago Tomas netted for the German top flight team to secure the win. Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side would be looking to start the competitive action of the new season with a positive result.
Dynamo Dresden, on the other hand, didn’t have a great pre-season recording three defeats, one draw and a victory in five friendlies. Dresden’s only win came against Teplice on July 16, while in the previous match against 1860 Munich, Markus Anfang’s side displayed great fighting spirit before going down in a seven-goal thriller.
Dynamo Dresden have a number of injury problems. The likes of Luca Herman, Jongmin Seo, Jonas Oehmichen and Panagiotis Vlachodimos are sidelined with injuries. Last game’s goal-scorer Manuel Schaffer could start up front in attack alongside Borkowski and Kutschke. As for Stuttgart, Florian Schock, Nikolas Nartey, Tanguy Coilubaly and Thomas Kastanaras are absent through injuries. New signing Josha Vagnoman could make his debut in the right-wing back position.
