Arsenal ended their two-game losing streak in all competitions by getting a comfortable win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. The Gunners needed the three points from this fixture to maintain their league title hopes alive. They lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa last weekend, thereby allowing Manchester City to take the top spot. With the defending champions, City, involved in FA Cup duty this weekend, the Gunners had to win to get back the top spot and they did it with relative ease.

The visitors produced a professional display from start to finish, as they did what was needed to get the much-needed result. Barring a few threatening moments by Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arsenal had the Premier League game under control for the majority of the match. The opener from Leandro Trossard just before the half-time break and skipper Martin Odegaard’s goal just before the full-time whistle ensured the three points for the London outfit.

The latest goal also helped the Belgian continue his hot streak in front of goals this season. Trossard has scored nine goals in the league and 14 in all competitions till now this term. However, Trossard admitted that his strike against Wolves was not intended. “It wasn’t intended, I just tried to get it on target because I had to handle it so quickly. I saw the defender coming so I just tried to get it on target and then the ball went in so nicely. It was a great goal for me and it helped us get up in front and get into the game,” Trossard, quoted on Arsenal.com, said after the game.

The Belgian also went on to heap praise on his teammates, as he believes their quality helped him a lot during his time at the Emirates Stadium. “I came into a squad with so much quality, so I would say it’s also maybe easier for me to play with such players as they can find you in tight spaces. I think the link-up has been brilliant since I’ve been here, and I’ve enjoyed my time here a lot. So I think that all in one word, is great,” he explained.

Even though Arsenal are on top of the league standings, they know that Man City can get back to the top if they win their game in hand. However, Trossard wants to only focus on themselves and get the job done. “This is what you play for as a football player. You want to play for prizes and get involved in title races. We need to focus on ourselves now. We can only do our own thing and that’s to win all of our games and I think everyone is ready to do that,” he stated.

Not to mention that the Belgian attacker is happy with the response the Gunners have shown against Wolves after losing their last two games. They first lost to Aston Villa in the league and followed it by getting knocked out of the Champions League against Bayern Munich. “We wanted to show the response today, and I think we’ve done that. Another clean sheet, two great goals – it’s a perfect win for us. It’s a massive boost. We wanted to win this game. There’s another game coming up very soon, so now we need to recover, get ready again, and then show us again on Tuesday,” he stated.
