Manchester City and Chelsea played out the game of this Premier League season on Sunday at Stamford Bridge. The end-to-end game finished 4-4, as both sides would feel they could have gotten more from the match. There was very little to separate them both, as the chances kept coming for either side. Both goalkeepers also produced brilliant saves to keep the game all square. It was the perfect final match before the upcoming international break.

After the match, Pep Guardiola looked at many things while analysing the eight-goal thriller, from attack to defence. The Manchester City manager felt they created plenty of chances but so did the opponent. He believes this is a result that could have easily gone either way, considering the number of chances that were created. In the end though he believes the draw against Chelsea was a fair result.

Pep Guardiola on 4-4 draw

“Could be better, but could be worse too, so it’s good for the Premier League. They started better, they are trying to build something here with a lot of new players. It was a tight game, we had our moments when it was 2-3 in our transitions – not to kill the game, because with 40 minutes left, many things can happen,” the Manchester City manager, quoted on the club’s website, said after the match.

He added: “We had moments and our goal at 3-4 – we were lucky, and we didn’t make perfect decisions, but the quality they have, it is what it is. Right now, it was a fair result – both teams played to win. Many things were going to happen, but of course, we are ahead going into added time, we could defend better, and the penalty is a penalty. We created a lot of chances – the most in my visits to Stamford Bridge, but they created a lot, too.”

Guardiola also heaped praise on Chelsea and claimed they are one of the best teams around. The manager also said his belief about the Stamford Bridge outfit on how good they are has not yet changed. “I had an opinion before, during and after about how good they are and nothing has changed. Chelsea is Chelsea and they have been one of the best teams of the last 20 years so I couldn’t expect anything different. If you are saying it is a long time since we lost, that is a good sign – today, we didn’t lose so we go away with a good point having created a lot of chances. It was a fair result for both teams,” he elaborated.
