The African outfit have qualified for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar and would be aiming to use these fixtures as part of their preparations. Uzbekistan, meanwhile, have failed to earn a spot in the prestigious event in November, having managed to secure only a second-place finish in Group B of the second round of qualification, only the top teams from each group would go through to the next round.

Cameroon kicked off their quest for a place in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on a winning note as they edged past Burundi, courtesy of Karl Toko Ekambi’s lone goal on the half-hour mark. Prior to that, the Indomitable Lions secured their eighth successive appearance at the World Cup in dramatic style as they edged out Algeria on the away goal rule following a 2-2 aggregate draw. Uzbekistan, on the other hand, registered three wins from as many Group C games to go through the AFC Cup qualifiers. In their last outing against Thailand, Jaloliddin Masharipov and Azizbek Turgunbev netted for the White Wolves to secure the win. It was Uzbekistan’s fifth consecutive win across all competitions.
Cameroon boss Rigobert Song has named a strong 26-man squad for the friendlies in September. Veteran defender Nicolas Akoulou could lead the back-three consisting of Tolo and Castelletto. Vincent Aboubakar is expected to lead the line alongside Mbeumo and Ekanbi. As for Uzbekistan, Roma player Eldor Shomurodov could spearhead the attack alongside experienced Igor Sergeyev.
