South Korea will host Costa Rica in an international friendly at Deokyang Eoulim Nuri Stadium on Friday. Both sides have earned qualification for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar and would be looking to use the fixture to test the squad and find the best combination. The hosts were last in action in July, having suffered a 3-0 defeat to Japan in the East Asian Cup final round match. Costa Rica, meanwhile, got the better of New Zealand in the inter-continental playoff final fixture to book a ticket to Qatar.

South Korea went undefeated in their World Cup qualification, finished second in Group A of the third round and went on to earn a direct spot in the group stages of the prestigious competition in Qatar. The Taegeuk Warriors are heading into the match on the back of a demoralizing defeat against rivals Japan almost two months ago. All three goals were scored in the second half of the match. Despite the loss, head coach Paulo Bento wouldn’t be too worried about his side, as they have won four of their last six games, while scoring a whopping 14 goals.
Costa Rica, on the other hand, are not not known for being proficient goalscorers, as they have not scored more than twice in a game since July 2021. The North American outfit managed to finish fourth in the CONCACAF World Cup qualification standings and earned a spot in the inter-continental playoff. And then got the better of Oceania side New Zealand. Joe Campbell’s lone goal inside the opening three minutes helped the los Ticos get the better of the All Whites.
