Brighton & Hove Albion will host Newcastle United in a Premier League fixture at Falmer stadium on Saturday. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of promising victories in the respective opening match of the new league season. Brighton secured a surprise 2-1 win over Manchester United last Sunday, while Newcastle got the better of newly promoted Nottingham Forest 2-0 a day earlier. The hosts had managed an impressive ninth-place finish in the Premier League standings last term, while the Magpies were just two places behind them and both sides would be hoping to challenge for a European spot this time around.

Despite not being able to find replacement for some of the key players who have left the club, Brighton managed to secure all three points in their opening round fixture against the mighty Manchester United. At Old Trafford, the Seagulls came out with a clear game-plan to sit back, defend and hit the opposition on the counter’s. Graham Potter’s side executed their tactics to perfection. Pascal netted two times for Brighton in the first half, while the Red Devils managed to pull one back courtesy of an own goal by Alexis Mac Allister.

Newcastle, on the other hand, comfortably got past Nottingham forest courtesy of second half goals from Fabian Schar and Callum Wilson. The Magpies  were too good for Forest, creating goal-scoring chances, while recording 10 attempts on goal. Eddie Howe’s side were equally good at the back, not allowing Forest to register even a single shot on goal. Everything looks to be heading in the right direction for Newcastle at this time, and another three points will only strengthen their view that they can challenge for European qualification.

Probable Lineups

Brighton boss Potter is unlikely to make too many changes to the side that got the job done against the Red Devils. The back-three of Veltman, Dunk and Webster are going to be key to their chances of earning points on Saturday. Dany Welbeck is likely to be the target man up front with Adam Lallana playing behind him. As for Newcastle, midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is sidelined with a hamstring injury. Just like the Seagulls, Newcastle are likely to opt for a similar starting eleven that defeated Forest last week. Almiron, Wilson and Saint-Maximin could form the front-three with Willock, Guimaraes and Joelinton occupying the midfield.

Brighton & Hove Albion probable starting lineup: Sanchez; Veltman, Dunk, Webster; March, Gross, Mac Allister, Caicedo, Trossard; Lallana; Welbeck

Newcastle United probable starting lineup: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Target; Willock, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Almiron, Wilson, Saint-Maximin
