Despite all the pre-season optimism, Manchester United displayed familiar problems during the defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Erik ten Hag will hope for a quick response from Manchester United after they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend. The Red Devils have an opportunity to bounce back from the setback when they face Brentford in Saturday’s Premier League encounter. United began the new era under ten Hag with a few impressive results in pre-season, however, they were not able to turn that positivity into a victory in their league opener. On the other hand, Brentford started the campaign on a good note by recovering from a 2-0 deficit to take a point in their opening match.

Despite all the pre-season optimism, Manchester United displayed familiar problems during the defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion. Two first-half goals by Pascal Gross were enough for the visitors to get a memorable three points at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Brentford found themselves 2-0 down against Leicester City in their opener but an inspired second-half comeback helped them get a valuable draw. Both teams will be looking to register their first win of the season, however, the pressure will be more on ten Hag to get a positive result on Saturday night.

Two of three new summer signings started for Manchester United last weekend. Lisandro Martinez started alongside club captain Harry Maguire in defence, while Christian Eriksen played as a false nine. However, Eriksen became more effective when he was pushed deeper in the second period. Another new signing Tyrell Malacia came on as a substitute. Their fans would hope that United will sign more players, with Adrien Rabiot and Cody Gakpo being linked with them, while the long-dragging saga of Frenkie de Jong still continuing.
Meanwhile, question marks are still lingering over the future of their star forward Cristiano Ronaldo. Besides, Anthony Martial and Victor Lindelof’s participation on Saturday also seems to be in doubt, while Brandon Williams and Facundo Pellistri will miss the game for sure. On the other hand, Brentford will have to make do without the services of Ethan Pinnock, Kristoffer Ajer and Sergi Canos. It will be interesting to see how they will replace the trio in the lineup.
Brentford possible line-up: Raya; Hickey, Jansson, Mee, Henry; Janelt, Norgaard, Jensen, Mbuemo, Wissa, Toney
