Seeking to avenge their FA Cup semifinal penalty shootout heartache, Brighton & Hove Albion welcome Manchester United to Falmer Stadium for Thursday’s Premier League showdown. Less than two weeks ago, both these sides were involved in a thrilling encounter at Wembley Stadium and all though Brighton looked the more promising side, David de Gea’s heroics in goal helped the Red Devils prevail 7-6 on penalties. Meanwhile, the reverse Premier League fixture between these two sides in August last year ended 2-1 in favour of Seagulls thanks to Pascal Gross’s first-half brace. Although, United pulled one back through Mac Allister’s own goal, Brighton held on to the slender lead and secured a famous win at Old Trafford.

Brighton are heading into the match on the back of a stunning 6-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend. Roberto De Zerbi’s side secured their 15th league-win of the season against the Wolves last time out courtesy of a brace each from Danny Welbeck, Deniz Undav and Pascal Gross. Prior to that, the Seagulls suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatended Nottingham Forest. Brighton have been a bit inconsistent in the last couple of weeks, recording three wins and as many defeats from their last six outings across all competetions. Nevertheless, De Zerbi’s side are currently occupying eighth spot in the English top flight standings, having collected 52 points from 31 games, just four points adrift of fifth-placed Liverpool, who have played two games more.

Manchester United, on the other hand, are sitting at the fourth position, with 63 points to their name from 32 matches. The Red Devils secured their 19th top flight victory of the season against in-form side Aston Villa last weekend. Bruno Fernandes’s lone goal in the first-half separated the two sides at old Trafford and ended Villa’s ten-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League. Securing Champions League qualification via their league position is imperative for Red Devils given their Europa League exit at the hands of Sevilla. Meanwhile, United have won only two of their seven top flight away matches in 2023 and their previous visit to Amex ended in a 4-0 defeat last season.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester United: Premier League Records, Stats & Goals

Since earning promotion to the Premier League in 2017, Brighton have grown leaps and bounds. After fighting for top flight survival in their first few seasons, the Seagulls managed to secure a top half finish in the 2021-22 season and this time around, they are in pole position to challenge for a European spot. Meanwhile, Brighton have won only five of their 29 meetings against the Red Devils across all competitions, and four of those victories have come in the last couple of years. The Seagulls have prevailed in their last two Premier League meetings against United and gave a good account of themselves in the FA Cup semi-final clash at Wembley almost two weeks ago. Nevertheless, the Red Devils have recorded 19 wins against Brighton.
