Boca Juniors will host Corinthians in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores Round of 16 fixture at La Bombonera on Tuesday. Neither side managed to break the deadlock last week in the first leg at Corinthians stadium and would likely go out all guns blazing in Argentina as a spot in the quarter-finals of the continental championship is at stake. Both sides are heading into the tie on the back of defeats in their respective domestic matches. The hosts were thrashed 3-0 by Banfield in the Argentine Primera Division fixture last Friday, while Corinthians suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss to Fluminense in their last outing in the Brazilian league.

Against Banfield, Sebastian Battaglia’s side conceded three first half goals without reply. Giuliano Galoppo opened the scoring before Ramiro Enrique netted a brace to hand second consecutive league defeat to the Blue and Gold. However, their continental form has been pretty solid, securing top spot in Group E with a 100 percent record. And then, in the away leg of the last-16 tie, Boca Juniors failed to find the back of the net. Battaglia’s side likes to maintain a solid defensive shape and hit the opposition on the counters. The full-backs and midfielders provide a lot of stability to the system.
Corinthians, on the other hand, suffered their worst defeat of the year this past weekend, when they conceded four goals against Fluminense without reply. It was the first time Timao had conceded a goal since early June. Meanwhile, on the road, Vitor Pereira’s side has claimed one victory in their last four domestic league games. Both the teams have met each other two times in the group stage of the competition this year and Corinthians won the first encounter 2-0 while the second ended in a 1-1 draw.
Boca Juniors will be without Nicolas Figal, Diego Gonzalez and Noberto Briasco because of injury problems. Benedetto is expected to lead the attack with Zaballos and Varela occupying the flanks. Villa, Ramirez and Fernandez would form the midfield trio. As for Corinthians, Pereira has a long injury list as Fragner, Rafael Ramos, Du Queiroz, Renato Augusto and Gustavo Silva are still in the medical room. Maycon is likely to lead the attack with Moraes and Guedes in support. Victor and Gustavo would form the centre-back pair.
Boca probable starting lineup: Rossi; Sanchez, Rojo, Izquierdoz, Advincula; Varela, Villa, Ramirez, Fernandez, Zeballos; Benedetto
Corinthians probable starting lineup: Cassio; Pedro, Victor, Gustavo, Piton; Mantuan, Roni, Giuliano; Moraes, Guedes, Maycon..
The Copa Libertadores Round of 16 match between Boca Juniors and Corinthians will take place at La Bombonera and it will kickoff at 6:00 am IST on July 6, Wednesday.
