Belarus and Azerbaijan will be keen to register their first win of the 2022 UEFA Nations League when they clash against each other. In the Group C3 encounter on Monday, both sides will be keen to bounce back from the opening match disappointments. Belarus lost its game to Slovakia 1-0 while Azerbaijan were also defeated 2-0 by Kazakhstan. Monday’s match will be played at Novi Sad in Serbia. Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine has resulted in Belarus’ home matches being played at a neutral venue and without any supporters.

Earlier, Belarus’ match against Slovakia was a tightly fought affair. The visitors had most of the possession and shots but Belarus did well to frustrate them for long periods of the game. However, Tomas Suslov’s strike just after the hour mark was enough for them to secure the crucial 1-0 victory while condemning Belarus to a losing start in the competition. In the other game, Azerbaijan were dominating Kazakhstan atleast from the statistical point of view. They had more possession and shots at goal. However, two quickfire goals at the start of the second half ensured Kazakhstan’s victory.

Coming into the Nations League opener with Slovakia, Belarus were on a three-game winning streak. Barring those three results, Belarus’ form in 2021 was extremely worrisome. On the other hand, Azerbaijan have managed only one draw and lost the remaining five of their last six matches. Hence, both sides are not heading into this match in the best of form. As a result, their clash on Monday will be too hard to call, with both teams having a shot at registering an unlikely win.

Possible Line-ups

There are not too many injury concerns for both sides, with the Belarus skipper’s situation seeming to be the only real worry. Evgeniy Yablonskiy was taken off during the second half against Slovakia. The reason behind his withdrawal is unclear, which has created a bit of doubt over his participation in Monday night’s clash. Meanwhile, with the visiting team, there might be some changes to the Starting XI. Ramil Sheydayev could replace Renat Dadashov or Mahir Emreli. Meanwhile, Qara Qarayev could also return to the centre of the midfield.

Belarus possible line-up: Pavlyuchenko, Yudenkov, Politevich, Khadarkevich, Begunov, Bykov, Bocherov, Shevchenko, Ebong, Klimovich, Solovey

Azerbaijan possible line-up: Mahammadaliyev, Mustafazada, Haghverdi, Huseynov, Medvedev, Qarayev, Nazarov, Mahmudov, Salahly, Emreli, Sheydayev
