Latvia enjoyed a positive start to their UEFA Nations League campaign in Group D1 after registering a 3-0 win over Andorra on Friday. They will be keen to build on that result when play host to Liechtenstein at the Daugava Stadium on Monday. Friday’s dream start was not always easy for them, as they had to ride their luck a few times in the first half. Roberts Uldrikis opened the scoring after just nine minutes but their visitors kept them under pressure on numerous occasions in the opening 45 minutes. Latvia got more stability in the match during the second period and got two late goals to start with a win.

On the other hand, Liechtenstein started with a disappointing 0-2 defeat by Moldova at home in their opener. They got off to the worst possible start when Ion Nicolaescu opened the scoring from the penalty spot inside five minutes. To the home side’s credit, they did well to not concede another goal till the end of the match when Vadim Bolohan scored the second. As a result, they will be looking to bounce back quickly, but Monday’s challenge away from home will be a big task for them.

Besides, Liechtenstein’s poor run of form over the last couple of years does not give much hope for an upset win on Monday. The last time they won an international match was on 7th October 2020 when they beat Luxembourg 2-1 in a friendly. Since then they are winless in 19 matches. On the other hand, Latvia are enjoying a fine run of late after being unbeaten in their last five matches and winning three of them. Playing at home, Latvia should get their job done on Monday.
