Both teams are preparing for their second friendly of the summer. Bayern had won the 2021-22 Bundesliga title, pocketing 77 points from 34 games, eight points more than second placed Borussia Dortmund. Manchester City, on the other hand, won the Premier League title last term by pocketing 93 points, just one more than second-placed Liverpool.

Bayern kicked-off their pre-season with a dominant win, putting six goals past Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit DC United. New signings Sadio Mane and Matthijs de Ligt both scored on their debuts for the Bundeliga outfit. Veteran footballer Thomas Muller, young winger Serge Gnabry, midfielder Marcel Sabitzer and Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee also got on the scoresheet for the Bavarians. After the friendly against Man City, Julian Nagelsmann;s side will take on RB Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal final next Saturday before beginning their Bundesliga title-defence away to Eintracht Frankfurt on August 6.
Manchester City, on the other hand, started their pre-season with a win against the Mexican outfit courtesy of a brace from playmaker Kevin de Bruyne. Pep Guardiola’s side will next travel back to London for the FA Community shield final against Liverpool on July 30. And then, the Cityzens will begin their new Premier League season against West Ham United on August 7. Man City have been busy in the transfer market, signing the likes of Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips, Stefan Ortega and Julian Alvarez. Meanwhile two prominent strikers Raheem sterling and Gabriel Jesus have left the club to join Chelsea and Arsenal respectively.

Considering that this is the last friendly for both teams before the start of the 2022-23 season, both managers are expected to opt for a strong starting lineup. Bayern are likely to go with a front-three consisting of Muller, Mane and Leroy Sane. New arrival De Ligt could partener Hernandez in the central defence. Meanwhile midfielder Leon Goretzka is sidelined with an injury. As for Man city, striker Haaland could make his debut while Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez are likely to join him up front. Bernardo, Rodri and De Bruyne are expected to form the midfield-trio.
